Acupuncture

What is Acupuncture?

Acupuncture involves insertion of fine, sterile, single-use needles at the selected meridians (or channels) where specific acu-points are chosen to stimulate the energy (qi) and invigorates blood flow. This process stimulates the body's own healing process. It is used to treat acute and chronic conditions, or even just for general wellbeing.

Common Conditions treated:
  • Insomnia

  • Stress/ Anxiety management

  • Gynaecological conditions- such as menopausal symptoms, PMS

  • Musculoskeletal conditions- such as trauma, muscle pain or stiffness

  • Respiratory conditions- such as hay fever, allergic rhinitis, asthma and common cold

  • Gastrointestinal conditions- such as IBS and constipation

What can I expect to feel?

You may experience some dull ache, heaviness, distended sensation or sometimes a strong sensation at the site of insertion. Occasionally, it may also travel up or down the arms or legs depending on where it is inserted. Above mentioned are normal sensations to expect from your acupuncture session.

How many sessions do I need?

There are a variety of factors that may determine the number of sessions required. This includes the type of main complaint presented- whether it is acute or chronic, body constitution- as this will affect how fast your body responds to acupuncture.

We also recommend follow-up sessions after showing progress with your main complaint or relief of symptoms to consolidate the treatments provided.

Things to take note:
  • It is important that you have had an appropriate amount of food to eat before coming to the clinic so that you are not receiving acupuncture on an empty stomach.

  • Please wear loose and comfortable clothing so that it can be easily rolled up for the treatment. You may bring something to change into if you wish.

  • Avoid food or drinks that may stain or colour your tongue, such as coffee or lollies.

  • If you are pregnant, or planning a pregnancy, please let us know in advance as there are some limitations to points used for acupuncture.
